THE SCHMITT-LETTER: "USED SOFTWARE LICENCES"

Under legal aspects, the trade with used program-licences is not objectionable", reports the renowned Schmitt-letter in his June 20 - issue. As a result, licences may be generally resold. According to expert opinions, more than 40 percent of the software licences remain unused by the companies, emphasizes the editorial office: Instead of letting them get dusty, more and more companies are now opting for the software second-hand market in order to turn such licences into liquid funds. And even when purchasing software, the second-hand market is sought-after: It does not only provide saving opportunities of up to 50 percent, but also licences which are no longer available on the regular retail market."

KOMMUNALINFO: "USED SOFTWARE - AUTHORITIES AT ECONOMY DRIVE"

The public administration has also discovered the buying of "used" software for its purposes, reports the magazine Kommunalinfo 24 in its edition of May 2008. usedSoft, aleading used software supplier has noticed an increased demand from German authorities. Thus, the Bavarian State Capital of Munich achieved savings of more than 50 percent compared with the new price when buying 2,000 "used" Microsoft licences. More and more authorities are now following this trend and are also opting for usedSoft licences. In doing so, the municipality of Neckarsulm could save costs of 60 percent. "We feel being obligated to manage public funds in a cost-saving way. Therefore, the possibility to buy used software has immediately arisen our interest", emphasizes Detlef Klein of the municipality of Neckarsulm. In the end, the increasing demand for "used" licences is explained by the positive development of the legal situation. Under legal aspects, the trade with used software has been generally accepted in the meantime.

Right in the heading it says: "That's how companies are saving good money". And the editor recapitulates that the legal security and the defects of the new Microsoft operating system Windows Vista have given wings to the market for used software - with usedSoft as one of the leading companies at the top.
