MARKT UND MITTELSTAND: "AS GOOD AS NEW"In its edition 2/2006, Markt und Mittelstand's article, titled "As good as new", discussed "used" Software. In this article, Roland Jahn, the CEO of Cambio Carsharing Aachen GmbH, describes his positive experiences with the use of used licences. To him, more than anything else, the price was the decisive factor: "A new program costs twice as much as a used one", said the businessman. Even though most current program versions are noticably less expensive when purchase second-hand, it could even be advantageous to implement older versions, wrote the magazine. For example, when the hardware can't deliver the greater demands that many of the new programs have. The previous versions are often no longer offered by the vendor, however. "Used licences then become the only possibility not only to save money but also to avoid new training and hardware overload", said Reiner Hirschberg, a founding partner of usedSoft.
